Rare Vintage 1950s Chaïm Soutine "Cock and Tomatoes" Swiss Art Print
GOLDEN RULE GALLERY VINTAGE ARTA unique vintage reproduction of Chaim Soutine's Cock and Tomatoes (1925) printed in Switzerland in the early fifties. Image (5" x 10 1/2") tipped in to heavy vintage cream paper.
Chaïm Soutine (1893-1943) was a French painter of Belarusian-Jewish origin of the School of Paris, who made a major contribution to the Expressionist movement and modern art while living and working in Paris.
Notes on the colorplate at the time of printing: "The hues of dead flesh have the infinite variety of precious stones. Soutine seems to re-invent in each successive picture his faintly sinister wonderland, with a facility that at first sight suggests mere improvisation, though actually there is a quite prodigious skill behind it. In the cataracts of brilliant colors each touch seems placed at random, yet is indispensable, down to the smallest details, the subtlest translucencies."
