A unique vintage reproduction of Chaim Soutine's Cock and Tomatoes (1925) printed in Switzerland in the early fifties. Image (5" x 10 1/2") tipped in to heavy vintage cream paper.

Chaïm Soutine (1893-1943) was a French painter of Belarusian-Jewish origin of the School of Paris, who made a major contribution to the Expressionist movement and modern art while living and working in Paris.

Notes on the colorplate at the time of printing: "The hues of dead flesh have the infinite variety of precious stones. Soutine seems to re-invent in each successive picture his faintly sinister wonderland, with a facility that at first sight suggests mere improvisation, though actually there is a quite prodigious skill behind it. In the cataracts of brilliant colors each touch seems placed at random, yet is indispensable, down to the smallest details, the subtlest translucencies."
