Rare Vintage 1950s Chaïm Soutine "Landscape with Green Trees" Swiss Art Print
GOLDEN RULE GALLERY VINTAGE ARTA beautiful vintage reproduction of Chaim Soutine's Landscape with Green Trees (1926) printed in Switzerland in the early fifties. Image (10 1/8" x 8 1/4") tipped in to heavy vintage cream paper.
Chaïm Soutine (1893-1943) was a French painter of Belarusian-Jewish origin of the School of Paris, who made a major contribution to the Expressionist movement and modern art while living and working in Paris.
Notes on the colorplate at the time of printing: "Swirling in arabesques of color, spiraling in fantastic convolutions, Soutine's trees and houses transform even the most placid landscape into a vision of some hag-ridden dreamworld. Actually this particular composition is relatively calm compared with many other landscapes by Soutine. Noteworthy is the smoothly flowing brushwork, the skill with which the curves of leafage and tree-trunks are modeled in rich, fluent pigment, like enormous flowers."
