Vintage 1950 Picasso “Fruit and Wineglass” Lithograph Art Print
GOLDEN RULE GALLERY VINTAGEVintage 1950 hand tipped in lithograph of Picasso’s FRUIT AND WINEGLASS (1908).
Commentary on the work circa 1950: Picasso has moved beyond psychology and romanticism here; Cubism is beginning to take form. In this finely balanced composition the artist applies himself to the structural and architectural problems which had engrossed Cézanne. Here we see the painter coming into his own and aiming at developing his technique; indeed, treating it as an end in itself. In other words, Picasso is not putting his craftsmanship to the service of any literary or sentimental theme; his object is to create ensembles whose emotive effect derives from combinations of lines and colours, and from these alone.
