A lovely art print of Chaim Soutine's Boy (Child) with a Toy (1919) printed in Switzerland in the early fifties. Image (8 1/4" x 10 1/4") tipped in to heavy vintage cream paper.

Chaïm Soutine (1893-1943) was a French painter of Belarusian-Jewish origin of the School of Paris, who made a major contribution to the Expressionist movement and modern art while living and working in Paris.

Notes on the colorplate at the time of printing: "Children, in Soutine's art, are gnomes, rough drafts of the man to be, pending the day when old age, whose marks they already bear, will overtake them. He does not observe them with compassion, nor is there any trace of conventional sentimentality in his approach; when he depicts their meager forms, the linework is brisk, incisive, clean-cut as the scratch of a hawk's talon."
