Rare Vintage 1940s Rousseau "Flowers in a Vase" German Offset Lithograph

A beautiful vintage 1940s reproduction of Flowers in a Vase (1909) tipped in on thick heavy paper with incredible patina. Color art plate (7" x 9 7/8") can be lifted at the bottom right corner to reveal commentary on the work in German.   

A rough translation:

"An example of the what the French call "Nature Morte." But this time is is not the dead things whose existence is given up to us, but a beautiful, fresh bouquet of flowers in a tall glass vase. Its solemn vertical position provides a decisive counterweight to the large emblematic branch of ivy on the brown table. Flowers and vase both appear flat as if pressed between two glass plates; they are conceived on a large scale, but in their way they are very skillful. All of this could also remain trivial. With the exquisite color chord - and as we know, Rousseau was by no means a beginning in this - it rises to the level of art."

Henri Julien Félix Rousseau (1844-1910) was a French post-impressionist painter in the Naïve or Primitive manner. He was also known as Le Douanier, a humorous description of his occupation as a toll and tax collector.
